Motivation Monday: “I Don’t Have Time to Workout During the Holidays!”

So, last time I checked you were too busy to work out, right? The most valuable thing we all have is our time. With that being said, it’s important to MAKE time for the things that are important to you! No more wasting energy on the things that aren’t important!
Brian Tracy talks about 4 mental techniques used by highly effective people that will help you program your subconscious mind for peak performance:

1. Use Positive Self Talk!

So, so important! Every successful man or woman will tell you “you become what you think about.” Take the negative talk, and thoughts, and throw it out! It’s no good here.

Begin by repeating over and over to yourself, ‘‘I am excellent at time management! I am excellent at time management!’’ Any command repeated again and again in a spirit of faith, acceptance, and belief will eventually be accepted by your subconscious mind. Your subconscious mind will then organize your words, actions, and feelings to be consistent with these new commands.

You can continually repeat “I will make time for my health. I will make time for my health. I will make time for my health.” Used consistently, positive affirmations will start to influence your external behaviors.

2. Visualize…it’s powerful!

In self-image psychology, the person you see is the person you will be. Begin to see yourself as one of the most highly effective people you know. Recall and recreate memories and pictures of yourself when you were performing at your best. Think of a time when you were working efficiently and effectively and getting through an enormous amount of work. Play this picture of yourself over and over again on the screen of your mind.

I’ve also seen people post motivational pictures (it may be a person, place, or thing) on people’s mirrors or doors so they can see it each morning when they wake up, or when they walk out the door. Visual imagery is very powerful. When referring to time management, it is important to practice mental rehearsal by continually seeing yourself as you would be if you were one of the best organized and most effective person you could imagine.

3. Act as if

We so consistently act our way into right thinking when it should be the total opposite…we need to think our way into right acting! You can start with this exercise: Imagine that you have been selected for a role in a movie or stage play. In this role, you are to act the part of a person who is extremely well organized in every respect.

As you go through your daily life, imagine you are as fit as you want to be, you are already very good at time management and making time for your health. Act as if you are already using your time efficiently and well.

4. Benchmark Against the Best

The fourth mental technique you can use for becoming a highly effective person is called ‘‘modeling.’’ Modeling requires you to pattern yourself after someone you know who uses his/her time well.

Think of someone you admire for good time management skills in regards to putting their health as a top priority. Use that person as your standard or your model. Imagine what he/she would do in any given situation, and then do it yourself.

I am a very competitive person so it helps me in my workouts to think about my competition. Sometimes, I’m just competing against myself…but that’s okay! I constantly think about how “insert name here” would not take a day off, or miss a planned workout…so why should I?
